Nipah: KSUM-groomed UNQ’s software to time-manage medical consultation

As a fresh case of Nipah-contracted death in Kerala underscores an urgent need for crowd-free hospitals, a software that enables patients to efficiently manage their medical appointments has highlighted the innovative efforts of UNQ Technologies.

Specializing in AI-based queue management systems for medical appointments, the company that incubated under the Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM) has come up with an advanced system that allows patients to track changes in appointment times, the number of pending patients, and the current status of the doctor. By using the ‘Get Directions’ feature, patients can estimate their travel time and plan their visit to avoid unnecessary waiting.

The startup has successfully addressed the challenges of queue management in medical practices, including varying consultation times for patients, no-shows and the need for doctors to attend to unscheduled patients. The software adapts to situations where doctors may need to take extended breaks or handle emergencies, ensuring smooth queue management.

As a 14-year-old from Malappuram district died on Sunday owing to Nipah, UNQ announced that 15 doctors across various specialties in Perinthalmanna are using the company’s practice management software. “Reducing waiting time has a significant economic impact as well, especially for low-income individuals. Saving even half-an-hour can help them preserve their daily wage,” said Mohamed Jasim, CEO of UNQ Technologies.

Patients receive an SMS with a link to track their appointment status, a feature that proved beneficial for dental patients in Kozhikode region during the Nipah outbreak of last monsoons. The software is also utilized in Gulf countries.

The 2020-founded UNQ Technologies excels in managing the diverse appointment scheduling practices of various doctors, providing a distinct advantage in the medical field.

Appointments can be booked in Perinthalmanna by contacting Jaza Healthcare at 8594011117 for specialties including ENT, gynaecology, paediatrics, pulmonology, dermatology, ophthalmology, psychiatry, and dentistry. Life Care Clinic facilitates bookings for orthopaedics, gastroenterology, and endocrinology at 8594011116.

For nascent companies and their incubation, KSUM functions as the government’s nodal agency. Established in 2006, it has been working for entrepreneurship development and incubation activities in the state.
