By Super League Kerala (SLK) finalists and point table topper Calicut FC will sponsor the Calicut Senior Boys football team at the ongoing Kerala School Sports & Games 2024 in Kochi. Calicut Senior Boys will carry Calicut FC’s logo on their jersey in their inter-district campaigns.
“We have a larger goal by participating in the Super League Kerala. It is to professionalise football in Kerala. As a result, we have the maximum number of players from Kerala in Calicut FC. Also, we aim to identify talent at a very young age, nurture them and encourage them to pursue a sports-led future. There is no better way to start this by handholding the Calicut Sr Boys team at the Kerala School Sports & Games 2024 being held at Cochin” said VK Mathews, owner of Calicut FC.
“Every member in the Calicut Sr Boys will be watched carefully. Boys who make the mark will be nurtured, supported and offered opportunities to move to professional football. Calicut FC will send a scouting team to watch the matches of Calicut Senior Boys at the Kerala School Sports & Games State School Meet and will identify talented players and provide them opportunities including trials and training with Calicut FC,” said Calicut FC Assistant Coach Bibi Thomas who takes up his position as the head coach of Kerala Santhosh Trophy Team after the conclusion of Super League Kerala.
Calicut FC has committed to improving the football ecosystem in the Malabar region. The club along with SLK, invested over Rs 2 crores to renovate the EMS Corporation stadium including affixing imported flood lights, laying new grass on the playing area, sprucing players dressing rooms and improving the general infrastructure of the stadium. Calicut FC plans to start a football academy in Calicut and on the lookout for suitable land for building a greenfield stadium with modern facilities for training and boarding.
Calicut FC will play Forca Kochi in the finals of the first edition of Super League Kerala on November 10 at EMS Corporation Stadium, Calicut.
